At around 10.30 GMT, Leo Durrington of 3 years old had been hit by a Ford Transit which was stolen by two boys who were arrested for hitting and running during the police persuasion. The police of Greater Manchester said that during the hit the police who pursued the boys stopped for providing first aid to the toddler who is now “fighting for his life” and then he was admitted to the hospital.
Police arrested the two boys of the age of 15 and 16 based on the “information received from the public”.The van had been found deserted near the spot where Leo was struck.
Sgt Lee Westhead said, “Thanks to the quick work of our officers, and information received from the public, we have managed to make two arrests following this horrendous incident earlier today.”
“Leo is still in a critical condition in hospital, and my thoughts are with him and his family at this incredibly difficult time”.
Greater Manchester Police, who have appealed to the witnesses to come forward with the relative information for referring those to handle the case to its professional standard branch “in line with normal force policy”.
During the inspection of the scene, Wigan Road was closed between Nel Pan Lane and Hillcrest Avenue.
